Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

Easy homemade whole wheat pizza dough recipe.

  • 1 1/4 cups cups warm water not hot, just warm!
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast or instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp ¬†olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 3/4 cups Whole wheat flour I use Bob's Red Mill


  • Combine 1 1/4 cup warm water, 1 teaspoon of sugar (I like can sugar), 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 tablespoon of active dry yeast or instant yeast. Set aside for about 5 minutes or until the top is foamy
  • Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 3/4 cups of whole wheat flour. You can use a wooden spoon or a dough hook attachment. If you're using a dough hook, knead for 5 minutes, but If you're kneading by hand, knead until the dough is smooth and elastic. If it's too sticky, add 1/4 a cup of flour.
  • Once you get a nice smooth ball of dough, add coat a clean bowl in olive oil. Place the ball in the bowl for 60-90 minutes, or until it doubles in size. Preheat your oven to 500 degrees.
  • When the dough has risen, divide it into two equally sized balls.Work with one ball at a time. Dust your work area with flour, lightly. Work with your hands or a rolling pin until the dough is 1/2 thick. If it continues to shrink back, let it rest for 5 more minutes. W
  • When you load your pizza with lots of toppings, bake it plain for 5 minutes so the middle can cook through, then remove it, top, and return it to the oven to finish baking for about 10 minutes more. If you aren't using a lot of toppings, you can top it immediately and bake for 15 minutes until the crust is brown around the edges.
